Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education: A Status Report Release Convening

Summary

​Racial and ethnic diversity comes with numerous benefits at all levels of education and in the workforce, and the current and future health of our nation—economic and otherwise—requires that the whole of our population have equitable access to sources of opportunity. Chief among such sources of opportunity is higher education.

The American Council on Education (ACE) invites you to join our convening for the release of Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education: A Status Report and its accompanying microsite, either in person at the National Press Club, or virtually via livestream, at 9:00 a.m. ET on February 14. 

The report examines over 200 indicators, looking at who gains access to a variety of educational environments and experiences, and how these trajectories and their outcomes differ by race and ethnicity. This convening will:

  • Promote dialogue and action on the state of race and ethnicity in higher education;
  • Share key findings from the report and opportunities for future engagement on these issues;
  • Explore what attendees can and should do to promote increased educational opportunity and improved outcomes for students of all backgrounds and students of color in particular.

Invited attendees include scholars, policymakers, institutional leaders, practitioners, and the media.

This event is hosted in collaboration with the University of Southern California’s Center on Race and Equity and the Urban Institute, and is presented with generous support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education project is made possible through the generous support of the Mellon Foundation.

9:15 – 9:45 a.m. – Key Findings of Report 

9:45 – 10:45 a.m. – Moderated panel discussion: What do the numbers tell us about race in higher education and in America? 

10:45 – 11:00 a.m. – Break

11:00 – 12:00 p.m. – Moderated panel discussion: What are the most critical issues facing students of color today on our campuses and how do we address them? 

12:00 – 12:15 p.m. – Closing remarks
