Description

Objective:

The course objective is to introduce computer system architecture. Microprocessors, power supplies, random-access memory, read-only memory, basic input/output software, CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor), motherboards, video cards, sound cards, removable media and storage devices will be examined. Students will gain the experience needed to build, set up, configure and repair PCs. Students will assemble a computer system with emphasis on installing memory, microprocessors, drives, as well as I/O (Input/Output) devices and other peripherals.

Learning Outcomes:

  • The methods of instruction include audio visual materials, laboratory, practical exercises, lecture, and classroom exercises. The general course topics include how the PC works, microprocessors, CPU (Central Processing Unit) components, RAM (Random Access Memory), BIOS (Basic Input Output System)and CMOS, expansion bus, main board, resources, power supply and electricity, hard drives, removable media, and video card and display. The methods of evaluation are examinations, laboratory, and workbook assignments with a minimum passing score of 70 percent
