Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide an extensive evaluation of the lower extremities through arterial and venous testing techniques including indirect physiologic testing such as: pulse volume recordings, ankle-brachial indexes, photoplethysmography, segmental pressures (4- and 3-cuff methods), toe raises, and venous stress testing. Lower extremity arterial and venous ultrasound techniques and protocols will be practiced with color duplex imaging, B-Mode, and Doppler evaluation. Anatomy of the venous and arterial upper and lower extremity will be covered. Optimal instrumentation settings will be practiced to obtain diagnostic images and accurate reports for physician evaluation. Diverse pathologies of the upper and lower extremities will be reviewed and discussed.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Review the arterial and venous duplex examination techniques
  • Provide preliminary diagnosis that correlates with the varying examinations
  • Practice protocols receive critical evaluations throughout the laboratory portion of the course
  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound imaging protocols of the lower extremities venous and arterial testing
  • Perform indirect physiologic testing techniques of the extremities including ankle-brachial indexes, pulse volume recordings, segmental pressures (4-cuff and 3-cuff methods), photoplethsmography, toe raises, and venous stress testing

General Topics:

  • Upper extremity anatomy, and lower extremity anatomy, imaging, and testing methods
