Description

Objective:

The course objectives are to help candidates transition from being a Mermaid Instructor to an entry-level PADI Mermaid Instructor Trainer. This involves broadening the candidates' instructional and mentoring skills, plus expanding their communication abilities. Assure candidates understand the PADI Mermaid instructor development structure, philosophy, requirements and procedures; expand candidates' coaching techniques to support instructor candidate development and achievement; confirm candidates’ mermaid instructional skills are at a role-model level; and provide candidates with practical suggestions for organizing and marketing their courses.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explain the role of the PADI Mermaid Instructor Trainer within the PADI organization and the scuba, freediving and mermaid community
  • Explain what PADI Regional Headquarters do to support PADI Members and diver education
  • Explain how to keep your PADI Membership and PADI Mermaid Instructor Trainer rating current
  • Explain how the PADI License Agreement guide your use of the PADI trademarks to advertise your courses
  • Explain the five categories of learning and how do they apply to mermaid training
  • Explain the nine events of effective instruction
  • Explain the key standards for the PADI Mermaid Instructor Course and Mermaid Instructor Orientation
  • Name the required curriculum sections for the PADI Mermaid Instructor Course and Mermaid Instructor Orientation
  • Discuss why is it important to acknowledge and build upon the experience that instructor candidates already have
  • Name the four confined water workshops
  • Explain how trainer candidates ensure that instructor candidates meet all skill performance requirements and receive adequate practice
