Description

Objective:

To gain the knowledge needed for specialty coding, modifiers and surgery.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop coding knowledge of medical specialties
  • Apply the coding rules for ICD-9 (International Classification of Disease) to patients' services
  • Extract patient data to link the diagnosis to the appropriate procedures/services performed to justify medical necessity for reimbursement
  • Analyze the usage of modifiers and their importance as an additional requirement in the specialty areas of medical insurance billing
