Description

Objective:

The course objective is to allow the student to develop knowledge and skills for completing insurance forms for physicians in the outpatient setting. The students will identify third-party payer insurances and apply correct coding and compliance rules.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop to the skills to process physician claims
  • Apply correct coding systems
  • Abstract information from the records in order to complete a variety of medical insurance forms, including the CMS 1500 form

General Topics:

  • Policies for billing and insurance, claims processing, types of insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE/CHAMPV (Department of Defense Heath Care Program /Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs), claim form parts and purpose, and claim form completion
