Description

Objective:

The course objective is to allow the student to develop competency in vascular ultrasound scanning techniques and apply theoretical and practical knowledge in a clinical setting. The student is placed at an affiliate site in the vascular ultrasound laboratory.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Follow basic and advanced protocols in a hospital or free-standing setting
  • Develop competency on a variety of vascular testing systems
  • Prepare patients
  • Develop competency and knowledge in the practice of vascular scanning and non-invasive vascular testing
  • Evaluate different vascular non-invasive tests and their findings
  • Interpret disease states in a preliminary diagnosis to a vascular physician
  • Apply knowledge learned in lecture
  • Review cardiovascular case studies
  • Apply knowledge of physics and instrumentation to perform studies on ultrasound machines

  • Arterial lower extremity, arterial upper extremity, carotid, hemodialysis grafts, lower extremity venous, peripheral grafts, penile sonography. physician-guided procedure, vein mapping, venous incompetence study, transcranial Doppler, and upper extremity Doppler
