Description

Objective:

To introduce students to current medical language through a progressive and comparative approach.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Analyze and understand medical terms through the knowledge of prefixes, suffixes, and root words
  • Relate medical terms to the structure, function, and pathologies of the human body
  • Gain awareness of certain pathological conditions in the systems studied
  • Accurately recognize and pronounce medical terms
  • Spell and define medical terms
  • Correctly recognize and use medical terms in a variety of situations, such as case studies, medical charts, laboratory reports, professional journals, communicating with medical personnel and clients

General Topics:

  • Basic word structure terms pertaining to the body as a whole, suffixes, prefixes, digestive system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, blood, lymphatic system, immune system, musculoskeletal system, female and male reproductive systems, endocrine system, urinary system, and nervous system
