Description

Objective:

To teach concepts and fundamental skills focused on aging as a normal process and to apply the nursing process in maintaining health and wellness.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Discuss aging theories and common myths associated with the aging process
  • Use head to toe assessment to identify client needs and be able to formulate nursing diagnoses to provide client care accordingly to Maslow's hierarchy of needs
  • Explain principles of infection control, and identity safety factors as to how they specifically affect the older adult
  • Identify common disorders related to aging using a systems approach and provide safe nursing care considering the client as a holistic individual
  • Communicate effectively when interacting with clients, family and other members of the staff
