Description

Objective:

The course objective is to examine the theory and operation of microprocessors. Students will learn about necessary support hardware such as memory devices, decoders, drivers, machine language programming and operation of microprocessors by conducting experiments on a microprocessor trainer. Hands-on experience with RAM (Random Access Memory), ROM (Read Only Memory) and other microprocessor support chips will enable students to understand computer systems. Instruction on fiber optics is also included.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Employ other components of the microprocessor-based personal computer (PC) system
  • Understand fiber optics systems and operations
  • Explain the difference between a microprocessor and microcontroller
  • Program a microprocessor at the machine language level
  • Understand the design and implementation of microprocessor-based systems, basic programming, and design

General Topics:

  • Microprocessor architecture, 8085 hardware, programming, system applications, microcontrollers, and fiber optics
