Description

Objective:

History of the United States I cover the period of United States history from the first civilizations and early European colonization to the end of Reconstruction, roughly in 1877. The course moves through content chronologically. US History is broad in scope, and we will focus on important events and developments while identifying multiple voices and contrasting perspectives. As a theme, the course asks that we recognize diversity throughout American History while connecting the past with the present.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Interpret areas of historical significance and developments from the first civilizations of North America and early European colonization to the end of Reconstruction, roughly in 1877.
  • Recognize major events which led to the development of the United States, including social and political movements.
  • Compare and contrast matters of United States history- social, political, economic, and cultural and how those events affected the development of American society.
  • Apply thematic events throughout the historical periods studied, including their impact on modern events.
  • Distinguish how various social, political, cultural, and economic events encouraged political participation and civic engagement in the Unites States.
  • Recognize diversity throughout American History while connecting the past with the present.
