Description

Objective:

To provide the student with a brief introduction to the accounting environment, an overview of business organization forms, and the importance of the accounting cycle required for business management and legal recordkeeping.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the accounting environment and define the accounting environment
  • Handle the entire accounting cycle including recording transactions in the proper journals (general, sales, purchases, cash receipts, and cash disbursements)
  • Post ledgers (accounts receivable and accounts payable)
  • Prepare a working trial balance
  • Prepare a post closing trial balance
  • Describe the different areas of accounting and the fundamental principles and concepts of accounting
  • Know the business organizations forms and why one form may be chosen over another
  • Understand the many methods of classifying a business for tax purposes
  • Understand the basic fundamental concepts and principles of accounting
