Organization

The Laubach Literacy Action (LLA) is the U.S. program of Laubach Literacy International. Started in 1968, LLA provides a channel for coordinating and exchanging volunteer literacy expertise and experience. LLA has built its program upon the 40 years of Laubach Literacy activity with trained volunteers in the United States. Laubach Literacy International, founded in 1955, functions worldwide to teach adult nonreaders to read and write. LLA's tutor-training programs are delivered to more than 700 affiliate literacy groups by 1,200 qualified trainers. Teaching materials, curricula, and certification standards for tutors and their trainers are coordinated by LLA.
