Electrical Workers, IBEW Local Union 269 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers represents some 350 construction workers performing various electrical work in the Mercer, Burlington, and Bucks Country areas. A four-year apprenticeship training program includes 210 hours of classroom instruction and 2,000 hours of on-the-job training each year and is administered by Local 269 and the Southern Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association. The training enables each apprentice to read blueprints, to work safely with high voltages and to install, repair, and service electrical equipment and controls on residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Local 269 has its own training facilities adjacent to the Union Offices. The facilities have several classrooms, labs, and demonstration and workshop rooms with a variety of workshops including electrical installation, wire and welding shops. The facilities also have a library with printed materials, overhead transparencies and films. The library is available to apprentices and journeypersons for their personal research. To receive journeyman status, all four years of the program must be completed.
