“We are dismayed and extremely disappointed by the Department of Education’s decision to rescind the existing Gainful Employment regulations.
The department itself has acknowledged that eliminating these regulations will cost taxpayers $6.2 billion over the next 10 years. Even more important, this will leave millions of students worse off. It is hard to imagine the rationale for such an ill-considered public policy move.
Underperforming institutions need to be held accountable and students must be protected. This is a huge step in the wrong direction.”
