American College President Study

About

The American College President Study (ACPS) has long served the higher education community as the most comprehensive, in-depth, and frequently cited source of information about the college presidency and pathways to higher education leadership. The survey has been conducted approximately every five years since 1986; the most recent edition is The American College President: 2023 Edition.

ACPS continues to capture important data on presidential demographics, search and selection processes, career trajectories, and duties and responsibilities—with a focus on the intersectional lenses of race and gender.

2023 Edition

The American College President: 2023 Edition includes new data on when respondents first aspired, applied, and were appointed to the presidency; information on the responsibilities that presidents balance with their jobs, including caregiving for loved ones; and questions on their community and support network.
