Transcripts

Transcripts are official academic records used by colleges and universities. They use transcripts to see if prior learning is eligible for college credit.

The American Council on Education (ACE) supports students and learners by evaluating prior learning. ACE Learning Evaluations recommends college-level course equivalencies based on knowledge gained through:

  • Workplace training or learning
  • Military training or occupations
  • Apprenticeships
  • Standardized exams

To get an official transcript, you must first complete an ACE-evaluated program. These can be found in the ACE National Guide or ACE Military Guide. ACE does not assess personal learning or transcripts that are not ACE-recommended transcripts.

ACE recommendations are recognized through two official transcripts. For the military, recommendations are displayed on the Joint Services Transcript (JST). All other recommendations are displayed on the ACE Transcript.

Badges are available through the ACE Transcript. They are digital indicators of accomplishments or skills that you can access and verify online. They include embedded metadata, which employers can use to verify workplace competencies.

Military Transcripts

A military transcript is a valuable record of your training, education, and experience. It provides documented evidence of this experience for colleges, universities, and employers.

Colleges and universities recognize the training and education provided by the military. They may award academic credit based on military experiences. This can save time and money when completing courses at civilian institutions.

A transcript translates your military experience into civilian language. This helps employers understand your transferable skills, such as leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, and technical expertise.

The Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard use the JST. It documents formal training and occupations that have been reviewed by ACE.

The Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) offers a two-year associate of applied science degree. It gives transcripts to service members who finish coursework from this program. Air University is a separate system that provides professional military education for the United States Air Force.

You can access any of these records if you are active duty, national guard, reserves, or a veteran.

Official ACE Transcript

Digital transcripts recognize learning and skills gained outside of traditional academic settings.

The official ACE Transcript is powered by Credly. It includes credit recommendations and competencies earned through prior learning. These can include workplace training, certifications, and exams.

Transcripts help colleges and universities grant transfer credit by covering college-level learning that happens outside of accredited schools. You can find all nonmilitary credit recommendations made by us in the ACE National Guide.

Learners must have a Credly account to access ACE Transcripts and digital badges. Visit the Credly sign-in page to request transcripts or learn more at Credly’s Help Center.

Legacy Records

Prior to November 30, 2020, ACE provided transcripts through our online Registry and Transcript system. This system has been decommissioned, and transcript requests are no longer available.

Learners may still utilize this system to view legacy records for courses or exams with ACE Learning Evaluations credit recommendations that did not migrate to Credly.
