“It is
vital for members of the House of Representatives to swiftly approve the
Fostering Undergraduate Talent by Unlocking Resources for Education (FUTURE)
Act. This important legislation extends mandatory funding for STEM education
benefiting students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Tribal
Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and other
Minority-Serving Institutions, which serve large numbers of low-income,
first-generation students of color. Diversifying our STEM workforce should be a
national priority, and achieving this goal would pay immediate dividends to our
economy and, most importantly, help ensure that all members of our society have
equitable access to quality STEM education and the resulting opportunities.
We understand the
FUTURE Act could be on the House floor as early as Tuesday and urge its
passage by an overwhelming, bipartisan margin. There is no time to waste as
this key federal funding stream expires in just a few days, on Sept. 30.
Following House approval, we look forward to working with the Senate to ensure
that the measure is promptly taken up and passed in that body and enacted
into law.”
