As campuses across the country experience a resurgence of racist and hateful incidents, a report from the American Council on Education (ACE) explores how the University of Missouri responded to the 2015 crisis on its campus and offers recommendations for other university leaders who strive to create and maintain a positive racial climate before, during, and after a crisis.
“Speaking Truth and Acting with Integrity: Confronting Challenges of Campus Racial Climate,” co-authored by Adrianna Kezar of the University of Southern California, and Sharon Fries-Britt of the University of Maryland, offers useful frameworks for building campuses’ capacity to address diversity and inclusion, as well as to work through the emotional healing often required after a racial incident or crisis.
An event held on Thursday, November 29, shared more about the report and its findings, and about how leaders can examine these frameworks as a way to gauge their own approach and progress.
The report is a collaboration between the University of Missouri’s Division of Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity and ACE’s Center for Policy Research and Strategy (CPRS). Click here to see the full report.
