Description

Objective:

This course’s objective is to challenge civilian and military students to deconstruct and reassess the mindset that in order to be a leader you must also have a title. Through prescribed opportunities to practice behaviors associated with the covered topics, this course enables students to reframe their mindset and to own the title of “leader.” Students will encounter established leadership fundamentals that have been pivoted to reflect and speak to the non- supervisory population.

Learning Outcomes:

  • translate the identified leadership behaviors critical to achieving their personally defined goals into on-going opportunities to practice and improve leadership skills;
  • discover specific barriers to behaving as a leader and plan strategies for overcoming those barriers;
  • examine how the factors that contribute to mindset influence their demonstrated behaviors and the assumptions they make;
  • apply a trust framework to recognize and practice the behaviors necessary to build, sustain, or improve trust in relationships;
  • demonstrate behaviors that foster psychological safety as documented in research;
  • produce an original capstone project that reflects on their goals and practice experiences and reframes the leadership narrative as accessible to and necessary for everyone.
