Description

Objective:

The course objective is to identify and explain modern civilization's origins as an agrarian society in Mesopotamia and the rise of communities, cities, colonies and countries. From Grecian city-states to the Roman Empire, from medieval times to the Renaissance, through revolution, industry and war, this course supplements students' knowledge of these historical events with a comprehensive understanding of how and why they happened.

Learning Outcomes:

  • describe how civilization began; identify the origins of Greek culture, politics, and society and detail the events associated with the Athenian Golden Age and the birth of Hellenism
  • describe the founding of Rome, the rise and fall of the Roman Republic, and the rise and fall of the Roman Empire
