The Excelsior College Examinations battery facilitates recognition of college-level learning. Initially offered only in New York, these examinations were known as the College Proficiency Examinations and Regents College Examinations. From 1976 to 1994, they were administered nationally by American College Testing (ACT) as the ACT Proficiency Examination Program (PEP). In 1994, the program title was changed to ACT PEP: Regents College Examinations and in 1998 to simply Regents College Examinations with the termination of contractual agreements with ACT, Inc. As of January 2001, the program is known as Excelsior College Examinations (ECEs).These tests may be used to earn college credit or advanced placement or to meet employment, professional licensure, or teacher certification requirements. Credit recommendations for these examinations are based on the credit typically assigned to corresponding courses, and examination content closely matches typical college course content and widely used textbooks. The comprehensive examinations, designed to assess overall learning that corresponds to college courses in a nursing program that uses an integrated curriculum approach, form the basis for the competency-based Excelsior College associate degrees in nursing. Free content guides presenting learning objectives, syllabi, study plans, recommended textbooks, and sample questions are available for Excelsior College Examinations.The tests are administered by computer at Pearson Testing Centers worldwide, including those located on U.S. military bases.UExcel® is an alliance between Excelsior College and Pearson VUE. The program's mission is to offer lower-level examinations that are recognized globally as a source of college credit.There are currently eight UExcel® exams. Content guides describing the objectives, content, recommended textbooks, and sample questions are available for each examination. These tests may be used to earn college credit or advanced placement or to meet employment, professional licensure, or teacher certification requirements. Each UExcel® exam reflects the content of one or more specific college-level courses. Credit recommendations are based on credit typically granted for the corresponding courses, and examination content closely matches typical college course content and textbooks. Through the UExcel® program, the tests are administered globally at more than 4,000 computer-based testing locations and are available year-round.
