Organization

The purpose of the National Certified Public Manager (CPM) Consortium is to accredit public manager TM programs by promoting high standards, facilitating program development, encouraging innovation, and linking to programs and organizations with similar concerns. The CPM Consortium is made up of two representatives from each member, and the president of the American Academy of Certified Public Managers.The first Certified Public ManagerTM program was developed in Georgia in March 1976. Since that time, 22 states, the USDA Graduate School (for the federal government), District of Columbia and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments have received full accreditation from the CPM Consortium to award the Certified Public ManagerTM designation.Participants in the program are supervisors and managers in state and local governments, the federal government, the government for the District of Columbia, and designated public service nonprofit organizations.Instructors are practitioners and academicians experienced in management and public administration. The instructors are trained in educational techniques thus assuring the highest quality in training and education.
