Christine Brennan, an award-winning sports columnist for USA Today and best-selling author and speaker, will give the keynote address at the Women’s Leadership Dinner during ACE2017, ACE’s 99th Annual Meeting, March 11-14 in Washington, DC.
The Women’s Leadership Dinner is scheduled for Saturday, March 11
from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Brennan’s speech will focus on the advancement of
women in the United States and life lessons learned as a result of Title
IX affording more women the opportunity to engage in intercollegiate
athletics. Those who wish to attend to the dinner may purchase tickets here.
As a leading voice on some of the most controversial and important
issues in sports, Brennan was the first woman sports writer at The Miami Herald in 1981 and the first woman to cover Washington’s NFL team as a staff writer at The Washington Post in 1985. In April 2002, her USA Today column
on Augusta National Golf Club triggered a national debate on the club’s
lack of female members and she subsequently broke the news in August
2012 that the club was admitting its first two women members. She also
broke the story of the pairs figure skating scandal at the 2002 Salt
Lake City Olympics and the Russian judging scandal at the 2014 Sochi
Games and has covered the last 17 Olympic Games, summer and winter.
Brennan was the first president of the Association for Women in
Sports Media and started a scholarship-internship program that has
supported more than 130 female students over the past two decades. Twice
named one of the country’s top 10 sports columnists by the Associated
Press Sports Editors, Brennan also has authored seven books and is a
commentator for ABC News, CNN and PBS NewsHour.
The dinner also will feature the presentation of the Donna Shavlik
Award, an annual honor that recognizes sustained and continuing
commitment to women's advancement in higher education, either in
colleges and universities or in national positions.
ACE2017, the country’s premier higher education event, offers an
environment of open dialogue where hundreds of senior higher education
leaders will network, hear from newsmakers and share ideas for tackling
common issues in practical ways.
The Women’s Leadership Dinner is sponsored by TIAA.
