After a successful ACE Presidents and Chancellors Summit in DC earlier in the week, planning already is underway for a redesigned meeting for 2025 called the ACE Experience. This will be a new setting and format for presidents, chancellors, and other campus leaders. It will be in Washington, DC, the week of Feb. 10. Please save the date and stay tuned for more details.
The Presidents and Chancellors Summit featured thought-provoking conversations with inspiring leaders such as Gen. (Ret.) Mark A. Milley, U.S. Army, 20th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and education entrepreneur Sal Khan. Other speakers included Freeman A. Hrabowski III, president emeritus of University of Maryland, Baltimore County and ACE Centennial Fellow, and Governor Wes Moore of Maryland, who joined together to share their own life and leadership experiences.
ACE President Ted Mitchell delivered a “State of U.S. Higher Education” address to the assembled presidents and chancellors, during which he noted that higher education is facing many challenges, including a public that is less convinced that higher education is worth the cost. But Mitchell also shared his optimism about the ability of sector leaders to work together to turn the tide.
Also during the Summit, Kent Syverud, chancellor and president of Syracuse University, was awarded the 2024 TIAA Institute Theodore M. Hesburgh Award for Leadership Excellence in Higher Education. In addition, ACE announced Florida Atlantic University and University of California, Merced as the recipients of the 2024 ACE/Fidelity Investments Award for Institutional Transformation.
