Institutions can still register to administer the 2024 Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) surveys and gain access to unique and actionable insights into their students, faculty, and staff.
HERI, housed at CRESST at the UCLA School of Education and Information Studies (UCLA SE&IS), in partnership with ACE, is an interdisciplinary center for research, evaluation, information, policy studies, and research training in postsecondary education. HERI provides institutions with valuable tools to understand and benchmark their students, faculty, and staff. Additionally, institutions that participate in these surveys will receive access to their data and a series of reports that offer peer comparisons as well as tangible takeaways.
Building on the longest-running, most comprehensive data collection of institutes of higher education, including more than 1,900 institutions, over 15 million students, and more than 300,000 faculty, HERI produces some of the most reliable and trusted tools for higher education leaders, enabling institutions to unlock the power of data and inform institutional decision-making.
HERI administers six surveys, four of which are currently open:
The Diverse Learning Environments Survey, which closes April 30, captures student perceptions regarding the campus climate, institutional practices, and student learning outcomes.
The College Senior Survey, which closes June 30, connects academic, civic, and diversity outcomes to measure the impact of college.
The HERI Faculty Survey, which closes April 30, provides institutions with a comprehensive, research-based picture of key aspects of the faculty experience.
The HERI Staff Climate Survey, which closes April 30, assesses the campus climate for diversity from the staff/administrator perspective.
HERI's other two surveys, Your First College Year Survey and the CIRP Freshman Survey, are scheduled to open in March and April, respectively. To learn more about all surveys, click here.
In July 2023, ACE and UCLA SE&IS announced a partnership to strengthen and lead HERI. ACE joined UCLA SE&IS and CRESST to evolve a new HERI by 2025. The future of HERI will build on their leadership in higher education to provide robust, scholarly tools to aid policymakers and educators in evidence-based policy and institutional decision-making.
