A pair of noted higher education economists will take part in a
broad-based discussion about the value of higher education for promoting
both economic opportunity and an engaged citizenry at ACE2017, ACE’s 99th Annual Meeting, March 11-14 in Washington, DC.
The conversation between Anthony Carnevale, a research professor and director of the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, and Sandy Baum,
a senior fellow in the Income and Benefits Policy Center at the Urban
Institute and professor emerita of economics at Skidmore College (NY),
will take place at the Monday breakfast plenary from 8:00–9:15 a.m. The
session, Higher Education in the Balance: What Does Society Want from
Colleges and Universities, will be moderated by John J. DeGioia,
president of Georgetown University (DC), and is sponsored by
Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates.
Registration is now open
for ACE2017, the most country’s distinguished higher education event,
convening nearly 2,000 leaders from deans to presidents and chancellors.
It will enable institutional leaders to generate fresh perspectives for
practical solutions, network with top leaders across all higher
education sectors, and bring data-driven insights back to campus.
Among the other major speakers addressing the meeting are Joichi
“Joi” Ito, an internationally prominent activist, entrepreneur and
venture capitalist, who will be the keynote speaker at the Monday luncheon plenary on innovation, sponsored by TIAA, and Teresa A. Sullivan, president of the University of Virginia (UVA), who will keynote the Robert H. Atwell Plenary sponsored by Fidelity Investments, on Sunday, March 12.

sessions also will explore a variety of important higher education
issues, such as advocacy and public policy, higher education governance
and student access, success and learning. The meeting opens at 5:00 p.m.
Saturday, March 11, with events that include the International Welcome
and Networking Reception, the Reception for Presidents and Chancellors
and the ACE Women’s Leadership Dinner.
