ACE will officially release The American College President: 2023 Edition next month at ACE2023, ACE’s Annual Meeting, in Washington, DC, as part of several in-depth sessions that will unpack the report’s findings and data–highlighting the comprehensive profile of today’s higher education leaders.
ACE’s American College President Study (ACPS) has long served the higher education community as the most comprehensive, in-depth, and frequently cited source of information about the college presidency and pathways to higher education leadership. The last ACPS report was released in 2017.
With generous support from the TIAA Institute, the survey of over 1,000 presidents captures demographics, search and selection processes, career trajectories, and duties and responsibilities—with profiles of women presidents and presidents of color. New this year, data will be revealed on the average age of aspiration, application, and appointment for college presidents by race, ethnicity, and gender, among other data points.
The programming at annual meeting will include the unveiling of the report at a session called, “The American College President in 2023 and Beyond.” Key findings of the report will be presented to set up a discussion about equity and parity in the presidency, and a panel of experts will discuss what these findings mean for the higher education sector.
In a fireside chat, “Reimagining Presidential Leadership for the Future of Higher Education,” three current presidents will engage in a moderated conversation about the future and legacy of higher education leadership informed by the study’s findings.
Also new for ACE2023 , attendees can join our dotEDU hosts for two live podcast recordings informed by ACPS data where experts and sitting presidents will unpack the gender gap in the presidency in one session, and in another discuss why diversity is essential in the presidency.
