Two leading national voices in the arenas of consumer technology and
political and public opinion, entrepreneur and investor Reid Hoffman and
journalist Eugene Robinson, will be featured at ACE2016, ACE’s 98th Annual Meeting, scheduled for March 12-15 in San Francisco.
ACE2016, the country’s premier higher education event, offers an
environment of open dialogue where hundreds of senior higher education
leaders will network, hear from newsmakers and share ideas for tackling
common issues in practical ways.
Hoffman,
co-founder and executive chairman of LinkedIn and a partner with
Greylock Partners, will examine the ACE2016 theme of Innovation during
the Monday, March 14 luncheon plenary. His talk will begin after the
presentation of the TIAA-CREF Theodore M. Hesburgh Award for Leadership
Excellence.
Innovation is most often defined as discovering new solutions that
solve tough challenges that citizens, customers, students and others
find valuable. The assessment and credentialing of knowledge is at the
core of higher education’s work, but what if these roles were challenged
by innovation at scale?
During his address, Hoffman will discuss the
innovations that are allowing for deep understanding of what individuals
know and can do, as well as how they are reshaping today’s colleges and
universities. Nicholas B. Dirks,
the chancellor of the University of California, Berkeley, will serve as
moderator for Hoffman’s session. An internationally renowned historian
and anthropologist, Dirks is a leader in higher education and well-known
for his commitment to and advocacy for accessible, high-quality
undergraduate education in the liberal arts and sciences, to the
globalization of the university, and to innovation across the
disciplines as well as in applied and basic fields.
Robinson,
a Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post columnist and MSNBC political
analyst, will explore the theme of Leading in a Changing World when he
delivers the keynote address at the ACE2016 closing plenary on Tuesday, March 15.
A successful leader in today’s globalized world requires nuanced
understanding of complex forces, including shifting demographic and
migration patterns, a world-spanning economy, technology-enabled change
and managing globally-engaged enterprises. In his plenary address,
Robinson will explore elements of these forces and outline his
perspective on the role and responsibility of higher education to face
the challenge of global leadership.
